The Wessex Heritage Trust (WHT) is a not for profit, self-funding charitable organisation which works with people of all ages to help them overcome personal disadvantage by engagement with their cultural heritage. We run a number of projects under the Trusts banner called The Memory Box Project, Memories Brought Home and The EDGE Project.
The Memory Box Project provides people living with dementia across Hampshire and East Dorset with free reminiscence sessions. The aims are to increase well being and communication between participants, engage participants in a fun and interactive way with their own heritage by using themed sensory boxes and to relieve stress and boredom that can at times be associated with stays in hospitals.
Memories Brought Home provides heritage opportunities for people that are socially isolated through group interactions and volunteering. Partner Heritage sites provide the perfect setting to explore the local heritage of four hubs across Hampshire accumulating in a touring exhibition of the project.
The EDGE Project (Engage, Discover and Generate Enthusiasm) works with disadvantaged young people aged fourteen to twenty four by engaging them within the regions Heritage and Cultural activities. This is achieved through on site events, and activities created and developed by young people, which allows them to achieve new life skills, gives them a sense of ownership and promotes the need to take care and such sites and facilities for future generations.
Your help is needed to enable us to take these projects to other towns and cities within the Wessex region so they too can benefit from the positive effects of heritage based activity.
