Behind the scenes…
There is so much to do ‘behind the scenes’ to keep on top of running our projects. If you prefer to work in our office, or indeed, work remotely we have so many tasks that need regular ‘catching up’. Key tasks include:
Preparing activities: We frequently need fresh new activities for sessions, including inter-generational working. You will have access to printing, sticking, laminating and any other supplies required. We are more than happy for you to get creative, or can give specific direction.
Creating Session Plans: Session plans are in every box, and need to ensure they are helpful to the volunteers working in the community. We regularly update our boxes and contents, so helpful, relevant session plans are an absolute must!
Researching: It is impossible to know everything about all of the themes we cover. This is why it is so important we have a little bit of back ground to help us connect with people through pictures and objects. Researching and summarising a huge range of reminiscence objects is a big task, and we have new things joining the collection all the time.
Sorting Photographs: As above, we are given a huge amount of photographs. We need to identify what may hold significance for people and ensure we know a little but about each one, and store and present them in a hygienic and accessible format. Scanning, printing and laminating as we go.
Fact sheets: These are extremely helpful in sessions for over-size items, scenery, events and concepts we cant bring in a box. Making factsheets involves a little bit of research, design and printing/laminating all in one.
Maintaining Memory Boxes: All our boxes are regularly checked for safety, cleanliness and missing or broken items. We have approximately 30 regularly used boxes that go out all over Hampshire so it is very important we keep them in tip top condition.
Newsletter content: Our newsletter goes out every month and takes a lot of time to collect, create and format the range of new content it provides. We include events, activities, photographs and stories; perfect for anyone who likes to work to a schedule!
Sorting Donations: We kindly get donated hundreds of items large and small. Anything we cant physically use for Memory Box is photographed and researched, and eventually found a new home if we cannot store it. We have to keep on top of our incoming collection as we have limited space, this is a never-ending task and extra pairs of hands are always needed.
Website and blogging: Our website is not maintained by an external organisation so staff need to find the time to update all social media, websites, blogging and anything else that goes onto the internet. This is something that takes up a significant amount of time but is so important these days. If you have experience in websites, or even writing blogs, diaries or journalism we would love to publish your content.
